FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Department of Consumer Affairs Warns Consumers about Medicare Telephone Scam and Other Health-Related Fraud

Columbia, SC…..The Department has received several calls from the Upstate in the past week from consumers who were told their Medicare account numbers had been changed. Although the caller knew the persons’ names and addresses (generally easy for scammers to obtain), the alert consumers became suspicious when asked for sensitive information such as Social Security and bank account numbers. Consumers should be aware that no government agency will ever contact you by telephone and ask for sensitive and identifying information.

Seniors and caregivers of seniors are being targeted with this scam and others.

Medicare fraud can take the form of many health-related scams. Senior citizens are frequent targets of Medicare schemes, especially by medical equipment manufacturers who offer seniors free medical products in exchange for their Medicare numbers.

Because a physician has to sign a form certifying that equipment or testing is needed before Medicare pays for it, con artists fake signatures or bribe corrupt doctors to sign the forms. Once a signature is in place, the manufacturers bill Medicare for merchandise or service that was not needed or was not ordered.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation confirms that the threat to seniors is growing – and changing. Baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) are now the largest segment of our population. That means that the number of senior citizens is rising. Many younger boomers also have considerable computer skills, so criminals are modifying their targeting techniques – using not only traditional telephone calls and mass mailings but also online scams like phishing and e-mail spamming.

Some Tips to Avoid Health-Related Fraud:

· Never sign blank insurance claim forms.
· Never give blanket authorization to a medical provider to bill for services rendered.
· Ask your medical providers what they will charge and what you will be expected to pay out-of-pocket.
· Carefully review your insurer’s explanation of the benefits statement. Call your insurer and provider if you have questions.
· Do not do business with door-to-door or telephone salespeople who tell you that services of medical equipment are free.
· Give your insurance/Medicare identification only to those who have provided you with medical services.
· Keep accurate records of all health care appointments.
· Confirm with your doctor’s office that your physician ordered equipment for you.

I have always thought that we have to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally do meet the RIGHT person we will know how to be grateful for that gift. Don't go for looks as they can deceive and with time fade away. Don't go for wealth as that will only bring temporary happiness and even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you smile because it takes only one smile to make a dark day seem bright. Always put yourself in others' shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person too. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way!

I just learned through the grapevine that Nigeria even have some kind of special school (well-hidden) to train any student to learn all kind of tricks to scam someone for their starvation, living needs, and et cetera.

Now, it's my big question ...

1. Do USA have to do anything with scam system since Nigeria has the Oil Refinery to keep USA as silent partner?

2. Why do most fraud check come from Canada with the false pretense brand of man-factory name logo from USA?

3. Why can't any proper federal authorizers do anything about it FASTER while thousands and thousands victim suffer from scammer, war, hunger, poverty?

I ain't no-brainer (something that requires a minimum of thought) person but it's really fool-proof system the scammer can go the further than you'd expect and there's no way to know until it's too late which I owe lot of money. At first I thought it was considered as helping the other people out of my kindness but it went too far since I'm in an abusive home myself too long. That's definitely no excuse but again, I live both similar parrel of being cajoled (to obtain from someone by gentle persuasion cajoleed money from the people to deceive with soothing words or false promises) for many years by my elderly room-mate. I was trapped the cycle of cajoling over and over again but now I'm more cognizant (knowledgeable of something especially through personal experience) of the certain thing and help others, if God's willing.

Then, I found a job on-line, once again, it's also fraud business which I ended up in the heavy debt and even pay the bills for them in order to keep my credit history CLEAN. It's not my judgement against them but only to report on-line FBI and leave it to God. Of course I'm still bitter about the whole situation because I live in the similar parrel, no matter how I keep battling for my own freedom.

FYI: NEVER GIVE THE MONEY TO ANY STRANGER ON-LINE. IF I HAVE THE SCANNER, I'd show you what the check look like when they send you. It actually come from Canada with the famous pretense (the act of pretending; a false appearance or action intended to deceive or a false or studied show; an affectation: a pretense of nonchalance) names from USA.

Now, I wonder if USA has been using scam system hidden with Nigeria due to the OIL business, in order to save its' blue, white, and red with 50 state star flag and pole, then point Nigeria as scam business !?!

It still hurts me as hell with financially-wise and the countless I 'bark' a lot of on-line stranger and accuse them (both sexes and any age) that they are professional scammer. Since there's 99 percent of professional scammer(s) on-line.

Even though, I heard the rumor that there are scam school to train them to be professional scammer(s). Now, back to USA, that country has an advance technology while Nigeria and/or other countries are definitely in 3rd World Class. Now it's my question; How/What in the hell World they get those sophisticated technology in the cyber-system in their country at the first place which 3rd World Class are lack the necessities of life and their economy?!?

First of all, the 419 scammer are very dangerous people, indeed both sexes and no matter what age they are.

If scammer never show you on the cam, thus it's no good to keep conversation. Delete and block the scammer screen ID.
Flatter you by prospal for marriage.
Demand for help with financial help, if you refuse and they will say no love.
419 are a very smooth-talker to make you feeling worth.
They are very highly-skilled professional scammers.
Don't trust their profile/picture because they steal from the model agency.
They can even get the fraud paper-works to prove you that they are real people.
Be careful with your email that show on chat which they can use to gain their money-wise by breaking your account without password because I say once again, they are very PRO-SCAMMER/HACKER/YOU-NAME-IT-ALL !!!
My advice to you, if you feel overwhelmed because the money is the root of EVIL.
Never let your heart weakens you by the 419 scammer because it's what they look for an easy target.
